ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TATA RACEMO
Tata motors sub-brand TAMO has recently showcased its first product named RACEMO at the 87th Geneva motor show. This is the first time an Indian car company is trying its hand on the sports car segment. Coming to the Car the RACEMO is a 2 seater sports car with a mid-engined layout. The car has been designed by legendary designer Marcelo Gandini at Tata motors studio in Italy. The car took nearly 22 months to come from draft to the show. And most of all this is a production ready car and it might hit the showrooms in December 2017 or January 2018. The car accelerates from 0-100 in less than 6 seconds.
The design of this car is amazing the car is being made by multi-material sandwich structure technology (Mo-FLEX)- which offers greater freedom in surface design, efficient large-scale part integration leading to modularity and faster time to market. The floating panels are only possible in this type of technology which can’t be done in conventional sheet steel technology.
Another beautiful aspect of design is the race-car-inspired with elements of Tata’s impact design language, like the diamond daylight opening. The front features narrow Bi-LED headlights, an aggressive nose and a sporty front bumper. The car is equipped with race seats and butterfly doors.
Under the hood
The car is powered by a turbocharged and inter-cooled 1.2L Revotron engine tuned to produce 190hp at 6,500rpm and 210Nm of torque at 2,500rpm. The power is fed via a 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) with push button reverse and paddle shifters. For a sports car, this is the first time with an AMT transmission. Due to slow shifts of AMT, it is not desirable for a sports car. We have to see whether Tata has addressed this issue or not.
|NO. OF CYLINDERS||3|
|INSTALLATION||REAR MOUNTED MID-ENGINE|
|MAX POWER||190 hP@6500 RPM|
|MAX TORQUE||210 Nm@2500 RPM|

Suspension and wheels
Keeping the RACEMO connected to the tarmac is an all-round independent double wishbone suspension. The front suspension is double wishbone suspension with anti-roll bar and in the rear, there is double-wishbone with stabiliser ink. The tires differ in size at the front and rear. The front has 205/50 R17 tubeless radials while the rear has 235/45 R18 tubeless radials.
This the area where the car shines Tata motors have collaborated with Microsoft India to give this car unique features like advanced navigation, predictive maintenance, remote monitoring and over-the-air updates using Microsoft cloud-based technologies including advanced analytics, internet of thing (IOT) and machine learning powered by Microsoft Azure. The best part that we liked about the car is the 3 split screens in front of the steering that gives a feel of playing racing games that we used to play in childhood
Like the other sections here also the car is feature packed. To bring the car to halt the car is equipped with all four disc brakes with advanced ABS and EBD setup. The car is equipped with electric parking brakes. The car has driver and passenger side airbag. The seat belt in the car is 3 point with pretensions.
|FUEL TANK CAPACITY||40|
With these advanced features and technology, we are sure that Tata motors are heading in the right direction. We are very excited to see the car on the Indian roads. Let’s hope that Tata brings the car soon and of course the response and Wow factor the car got we are certain that it would be a game changer for Tata.
