With the increasing competition, Hyundai has decided to roll out the facelift of Grand i10. Hyundai has a fleet of cars in India, the Grand i10 is one of the best-selling cars because it’s a car full of features and in a country like India where people are crazy for new kinds of stuff that they can play with such as touch-screen infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation system and many more. Here’s what Hyundai has to present in the Hatchback war.
What’s new about the 2017 Hyundai Grand i10?
Everyone wants to know what’s new that makes best-selling Grand i10 more attractive. Firstly, we will be discussing the engines offered by Hyundai. The petrol motor is still the same 1.2 Kappa Dual VTVT 4cylinder, 16 valves DOHC type having a displacement of 1,197cc which produces a maximum power of 83 PS @ 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 114Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Hyundai also offers you to choose the 5-speed manual or the 4-speed automatic transmission. New diesel engine offer by Hyundai produces a 74PS of power @ 4000 rpm and 190Nm Torque @ 1750-2250 rpm. It is stated as 1.2 U2 CRDi 3 cylinder, 12 valves DOHC type displacing 1,186 cc.
What’s new in the interiors.
Hyundai has been always ahead of its competitors in terms of features it provides in its cars. The Grand i10 has been already loved by people for its design and its feature packed interiors. The finishing on the gear knob and steering wheel makes the car much more appealing and leaping ahead of its rival. In the facelift, the Grand i10 gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system in Sportz(O) and Asta variant that supports both android auto and apple car play connectivity (Not even offered in 2017 Honda City) along with mirror link that can be used to cast your mobile screen on the car’s touchscreen. You will be amazed to know that this touchscreen is the same as that the Hyundai Elantra is having. Talking about the touch panel on the infotainment system, the touch sensitivity is smooth and the response is also a delight. The screen is also a display for the rear camera while reversing the car. The Sportz variant gets a 5-inch colour touchscreen audio system. In Sportz(O) and Asta variant, voice recognition system is available that can be used for a lot of purposes. Hyundai has also provided a voice recognition button on the steering wheel that makes it, even more, easier to use. The Asta Variant is now equipped with the fully automatic climate control system. The driver airbag is set standard for every trim while the variants above Sportz gets dual airbag.
What’s new in the exteriors.
The stylish Grand i10 has always attracted the youth who are looking to buy a sporty hatchback on a budget of 5 lakh rupees. With the new changes, it will do its job more efficiently. The changes are few but noticeable. The front and rear bumpers are redesigned. The front bumper now has a cascade design grille look. The LED daytime running lights (DRLs) are now a part of Grand i10. The DRLs are L-shaped besides the fog lamps. The front bumper now has front air curtains just above the fog lamps that helps the striking air force to pass which Hyundai claims to be more aerodynamic. The rear bumper is now dual tone and has two round fog lamps at each side at the bottom. Now it has a bigger antenna for improving the radio signals. The Sportz(O) and Asta variant are much cooler as they both get 14’’diamond cut alloy wheels.
What more Hyundai could have offered.
Hyundai is known for its cars fully packed with features. But Hyundai cut some of the essential features. In terms of safety, Hyundai Grand i10 lack a step back from its competitors as it has dual airbags in top variants only while single airbag for the driver in other variants. The European version of the Grand i10 gets an interior colour option of either chocolate-black or blue-black combination. But the Indian version still gets the same not so stylish black-beige colour combination. Another safety feature which Hyundai neglected is speed sensing door locks. This is one of the basic safety features that every car manufacturer should include in their cars and many actually are having it. There is one more thing that Hyundai neglected i.e. big wheels. There is no lying that car enthusiasts love bigger sets of rims. In Europe, the facelift now has 15” Diamond alloy as compared 14” in the Indian market. Another difference that can be easily noticed is that the Euro version of the Grand i10 gets the retro round LED DRLs placed in the hexagonal grill on both sides whereas the Indian version gets an L-shaped LED DRLs beside the fog lamps. Hyundai could have come up with those retro round LED DRLs and there’s a big reason for it as DRLs are becoming common nowadays, this would have been an advantage for Hyundai by providing something which stands out in the big market of hatchbacks.
Should you buy it?
The top ASTA variant is 30,000 more costly than the outgoing model priced at 6.40 lakhs and 7.33 lakhs for petrol and diesel respectively. This will also be a deciding factor for buyers who are tight on their budget as they will be getting the other competitor hatchbacks at a lower price. The Grand i10 has targeted the youth who are looking to buy a sportier hatchback and Hyundai knows this, so they have made the Grand i10 more stylish and feature packed with the LED DRLs. But in terms of safety, it lacks behind its competitors. If you are looking for a sporty car on a budget of around 5-6 lakhs, this can be one of your top choices. Indeed, it’s Hyundai’s one of the best productions.
